AAFS encourages Associate Members and Members who are eligible for a higher status to complete and submit an application for promotion. Please review the promotion requirements on the AAFS website at https://www.aafs.org/home-page/membership/student-affiliate-trainee-affiliate-or-associate-member/aafs-basic-membership-requirements/promotion-requirements/individual-section-requirements/ to determine if you are eligible. If you fulfill your section’s requirements for promotion, you may apply online by logging into your AAFS online account portal. If you have forgotten your login and/or password, please contact the Membership Department at membship@aafs.org.

Because of the large number of applications the committee must review in a limited time frame, the most pertinent information must be included on the application form. Additional supporting documents may be attached; however, you must complete all sections with the basic information requested. Do not write “See CV” as you will be notified that your application is incomplete.

To be considered for promotion at the 2020 AAFS Annual Scientific Meeting in Anaheim, CA, the AAFS office must receive your completed application no later than October 1, 2019. Please feel free to contact Membership Coordinator Cheryl Hunter with any questions (chunter@aafs.org).

As a reminder, benefits of promotion status (Member and Fellow) include:

  • Opportunity to have a voice in the AAFS bylaws, policies, decision-making, etc.
  • Opportunity for Fellows to serve as a Section Officer and on the Board of Directors
  • Opportunity to advance to a retired status, which includes complimentary annual dues; Retired Fellows also receive a complimentary basic meeting registration.
