The American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) is concerned about its membership and hopes everyone is healthy and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We have received a few inquiries regarding dues payments during this unprecedented time. The membership-approved AAFS Bylaws dictate dues deadlines and the inactive status for nonpayment. While staff is not able to waive bylaws deadlines, we want to remind everyone that the bylaws include a provision to pay annual dues as late December 31 and wanted to clarify the various deadlines.
The deadline for 2020 dues payments is April 20. After this date, unpaid memberships must be turned inactive. An inactive status will affect Journal of Forensic Sciences subscriptions – online access is disabled and hard copy orders are suspended. The option to reinstate by paying dues online (through your AAFS online account portal) will be available until May 20. After May 20, the option to pay online becomes disabled.
From May 20–December 31, payments may be made by contacting Accounting Assistant Heather Jefferson (719.636.1100, ext. 3 or firstname.lastname@example.org) with a credit card or by mailing a check to the AAFS office. Dues payments will be accepted by either method as late as December 31 (5:00 pm Mountain).
Those unable to pay 2020 dues by December 31 will be required to reapply for membership. Reapplication includes submission of a new application form, application fee, any supporting documentation outlined in the membership requirements, and at a status no higher than Associate Member.
