It gives me great pleasure to officially announce the creation of the AAFS COVID-19 Resource Page! The creativity (and patience) of our wonderful Academy staff was put to the test over the past few weeks as information was gathered for what is hoped to become a valuable site for our members in search of COVID-19-related information. Although we have medical professionals as members of our organization, the AAFS is not in a position to provide medical advice. Many of the links found on the resource page will direct you to pages provided and updated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which should provide the confidence needed to follow the recommendations, guidelines, and general advice. The resource page is formatted in a way to provide easy access to many of the CDC links of interest to our members and the general public. Additionally, there are a few other useful items/features worth mentioning that should entice you to visit the page more often.
One feature is a drop down for state-specific Health Department webpages. Upon selecting the state, territory, or island of interest, you will be directed to the appropriate website. This will allow you to stay current with the latest news in not just your area, but globally as well. During this phase, we were unable to add every territory, country, or region. However, as a member of the AAFS, if you visit the resource page and find that your home area is not included, please notify Kathy Howard (email@example.com). If we can add it to serve you, we most certainly will.
Two additional features are the “Legislative Corner” and the “Small Business News” sections. Former AAFS President and Consortium of Forensic Science Organizations (CFSO) Liaison Kenneth Melson keeps the membership current with the latest news from the hill through updates and the posting of relevant legal documents in the “Legislative Corner.” The “Small Business News” section has information that may be relevant to the many AAFS members that own a business or run a practice.
The AAFS COVID-19 Resource Page was created for the membership and we hope you will visit it for current news. While there, be sure to check out the videos added for your viewing pleasure. One is a simple video for making a “no sew” cloth face covering to help keep you protected during these unprecedented and trying times. This is just one of the many recommendations from the CDC. Visit the all new AAFS COVID-19 Resource Page to view the rest. Stay safe and be well!
