ICITAP Invites You to Join the Value of Forensics Webinar

The International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP) is hosting The Value of Forensics webinar Thursday, April 8, 2021. This webinar will explore the systemic benefits to be gained by investing in forensic science. The expert panel will discuss various ways forensic science adds value to the criminal justice system though a positive impact on crime rates and an independent role in the investigative process. The panel will discuss research that has demonstrated the impact of DNA databases in preventing crime and the anticipated Return On Investment (ROI) of processing sexual assault kits and reference samples from convicted offenders. The discussion will also include how management can use business statistics to optimize the efficiency of their laboratory to maximize their ROI. Finally, the webinar will explore the intangible societal benefits of independent forensic analysis.



Jennifer Doleac is an Associate Professor of Economics at Texas A&M University and Director of the Justice Tech Lab. Dr. Doleac studies crime and discrimination, with a particular emphasis on prisoner reentry and the effects of technology on public safety. Dr. Doleac organizes the Texas Economics of Crime Workshop (TxECW) and hosts Probable Causation, a podcast about law, economics, and crime.




Paul J. Speaker is a faculty member of the West Virginia University Finance Department. Dr. Speaker’s research activity is concentrated in economic modeling, including regulated industries, business valuation, process engineering, financial institutions, the role of not-for-profit institutions, the impact of technology, and the business of forensics.




James Anderson is director of the Justice Policy Program and the RAND Institute for Civil Justice and a senior behavioral/social scientist at the RAND Corporation. Mr. Anderson’s work has appeared in the Harvard Law Review, the Yale Law Journal, the Stanford Law Review, the Journal of Law and Economics, the Oxford University Press, and in numerous RAND publications.
