On June 19th, the Consortium of Forensic Science Organizations (CFSO) released an update on the status of financial legislation allocating funds to the forensic sciences. The release, which further explains the allocation and current status of the bill, may be downloaded as a PDF here.
Congress is halfway through the budget process and the House has written its draft of the budget and has passed it. The Senate completed its Committee mark up that will go to the floor shortly. There are differences between the budgets and the CFSO will send an alert shortly with a call to action. The link above includes a chart for funding and the language accompanying the funds after the chart. NOTE: ALL forensic-related language in the Senate Appropriations Bill is included. An upcoming newsletter will provide a “side-by-side” of the House and Senate bills (language and funding).
