We hope you are all out there staying safe! It has been an interesting year but as any show must, the 2021 AAFS Annual Scientific Meeting goes on!
As you have no doubt been made aware, the 2021 meeting will be held 100% virtually. Here is some important information regarding the meeting:
- The educational portion of the meeting will be five days: February 15-19, 2021, U.S. Central Time zone
- The events platform provider is vFairs and you can browse their platform HERE
- Amazing features will include Virtual Exhibit Hall, Virtual Poster Hall (YFSF Poster deadline is approaching too!), online access to material for three months, and so many more features
- Specific dates and times of everything are still in the works in order to avoid “Zoom Fatigue” and to maximize the delivery of high quality content
Special Session Planning Update
The Special Session abstract deadline is October 8. We still have spots to fill and would appreciate your contributions!
Our theme mirrors the theme of the Academy: One Academy Pursuing Justice Through Truth in Evidence…The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing but the Truth.
Special Session coordinators Hannah Simmons and Catherine Brown are well on their way and have successfully reached out to several prominent members of the AAFS to request that they present this year. We have several speakers in the works who will present how they worked a case and took it though to court where they presented evidence in order to highlight their experiences, good and bad, with hurdles associated with presenting evidence in testimony.
Back by popular demand, the amazing resume and interviewing guru Dirk Vastrick has agreed to return this year to present. And once again, combined with Dirk’s talk, we are looking to host a live resume review panel where you can have your resume reviewed and critiqued, and a panel will be available for a Q&A to address pertinent topics and any issues. Stay tuned to find out more about this year’s talks.
Social Media Update
The YFSF Committee has been working very hard with the AAFS Membership Outreach Committee to make our digital presence a priority because we know how important it is to provide information to our members in a manner that is relevant and easily accessible across multiple platforms. That being said, the AAFS has expanded its footprint and content can now be accessed by clicking on the icons below:
Please tag our handle #AAFS in any of the forensic related posts you are putting up so we can increase awareness about the amazing work AAFS professionals are doing around the world. Let’s get that hashtag out there and continue to make the AAFS and the YFSF the place for sharing everything forensic related!
And here’s more good news! You asked for it and it’s coming! The new and improved AAFS website is in the process of being reviewed and will undergo a complete redesign. This will include the YFSF webpage which we can’t wait to see!
