AAFS Factsheets on ASB, ASTM, and NFPA Standards Now Available!

The AAFS Standards Factsheets provide a concise summary of each standard and facilitate broader understanding, they also highlight the purpose of a standard, why it is needed, and the benefits of adoption. New Document from the ASB!

The AAFS Standards Board (ASB) is pleased to announce the publication of a new Standard from the Anthropology Consensus Body! .

  • ANSI/ASB Standard 149, Standard for Taphonomic Observations in Support of the Postmortem Interval, First Edition, 2022

To date, the ASB has published 74 Standards/Best Practice Recommendations (all approved as American National Standards by ANSI), and 3 Technical Reports. All ASB publications can be downloaded from the ASB website.

ASB Documents Open for Public Comment

The ASB encourages all interested parties to provide comments on documents in progress.

The following documents are open for public comment:

  • Recirculation* – ASB Std 135, Scene Detection and Processing in Forensic Anthropology (Comment Deadline: July 18, 2022)
  • Recirculation* – ASB Std 158, Standard for Developing Standard Operating Procedures in Bloodstain Pattern Analysis (Comment Deadline: July 11, 2022)
  • Recirculation* – ASB Std 159, Standard for Scene Investigation and Reconstruction-Foundational Principles (Comment Deadline: June 27, 2022)
  • Recirculation* – ASB BPR 160, Best Practice Recommendation for Initial Response at Scenes by Law Enforcement Officers (Comment Deadline: July 18, 2022)
  • ASB Std 172 – Standard for Examination of Mechanical Checkwriter Impressions and Machines (Comment Deadline: July 11, 2022)

*Please note that comments on a re-circulation will only be accepted on revised sections of a document, comments made to text not revised from the previous public comment period will not be accepted.
