The abstract submission process for the 2020 Annual Scientific Meeting in Anaheim, CA, is nearly upon us! Based on our survey last year, the Academy will be launching a new program called Academy Connect that will provide a way for a small number of workshops to be recorded for later access online via video on demand. These recordings could be a complete video recording of a workshop or the capture of just the PowerPoint® presentation(s) with an audio overlay, depending on the type of presentation submitted.
Academy Connect will allow AAFS to expand the educational reach not only to members, but also to those who may become members in the future! With this program, if you did not attend a meeting and a workshop was recorded, you will, for a fee, be able to access that workshop online after the meeting. In the future, if you are a registered attendee at a meeting and, for example, a day of any section’s scientific session is recorded, you would have free access after the meeting to that recording. This will greatly enhance your access to our educational program. Initially, it is expected that a small number of workshops will be offered from the 2020 program, but those may be increased the following year to include scientific sessions, depending on the response.
If you are planning to submit a workshop proposal by the August 1 deadline, you will be asked to consider participating in the program by signing a Recording and Publication Authorization Agreement. Declining to sign this agreement in no way affects the consideration of your proposal for the AAFS program. Indicating your willingness to agree does not necessarily mean that your presentation will be recorded, but rather that your presentation will be among those considered for the Academy Connect program. If there are co-authors and co-presenters, they must all agree and sign the authorization before the presentation is accepted for the Academy Connect program. If you agree to participate, you will notice that you retain ownership of your material and you are free to subsequently license or present that material elsewhere if you so desire. The recordings will be available for viewing only—not for download.
We sincerely hope that you will consider participating in this program and helping us maximize the availability of the valuable information that you have to offer!
