January 2017

As we bid farewell to 2016 and look forward to 2017, the General Section Officers want to wish our membership a Happy New Year.  We are looking forward to seeing everyone in New Orleans next month at the AAFS Annual Scientific Meeting.  On Wednesday, February 15, the section will hold its annual luncheon and business meeting.  Our presentation this year will be “No Body Homicides” by Robert Morton, FBI (Ret).  You will not want to miss it, but in order to attend, you must pre-register for the General Section Luncheon, L5.  On-site registration will not be allowed!

The General Section Business Meeting will follow at 1:30 p.m.  Keep in mind that meeting attendance is required for promotion and it is a great way to stay informed of section happenings.  To obtain credit for your General Section Business Meeting attendance, make sure you sign-in on the roster prior to the conclusion of the business meeting.

Be on the lookout for pre-meeting materials which will be discussed and voted on during our section business meeting.  We will be discussing disciplines and changes to the Policy and Procedure Manual.  These documents will be emailed to you by January 15 for voting at the Section Business Meeting on February 15.

The annual Academy Cup competition is held on Wednesday, February 15, at 8:00 a.m. – 8:45 a.m.  It is a friendly competition amongst the sections to determine who has the most “Academy Knowledge.”  Our team composition has grown and this year up to 30 individuals from each section are allowed to participate and compete for the coveted cup!  If you think you can outwit the competition, want to spend some extra time with your fellow section members, and are ready to take back the cup (our section won it in 2015), please contact Claire Shepard ( by January 20, and she will add you to the team.
